A beloved,
veteran Los Angeles newscaster was making a move from
a 7000 sq. ft. house in Calabasas to a penthouse on the
fashionable Wilshire Corridor in Westwood. His desire was
to maintain privacy while enjoying a grand style of
everyday living and entertaining. The challenge was
to turn what was a large, drab, dark and rather
somber condo into one with the light, airy feeling
of his previous home which had been all-white.
After many discussions, we agreed the best way to
accommodate his desires would be to use lightness in
color rather than the aforementioned white. Once he
said: "fine, let's do it", we sponged the walls in
a butter yellow and painted the ceiling in a soft
white to make them appear even higher than they
were. We used the same yellow for the curtains and
gathered them up with giant silk tassels of cream.
Some furniture was brought from his prior home. We
designed much of what is there adding some touches
which made it look like they'd been together from
day one.
Since he had won so many Emmys and
other awards, these were displayed on illuminated lucite
shelves along with photos of several presidents, governors
and prominent show business personalities from the past five decades.
The high, floor-to-ceiling windows utilize the
magnificent views stretching from the green hills of Bel-Air on the north
to the Pacific Ocean on the west. His new home is alive and exciting!
